By | 28 December, 2012

Every week, I highlight and share an inspirational 3G WIT, that is a Woman in Technology who’s life’s work is an embodiment of the 3G Lifestyle. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Holiday over the last week. Now its that time again, so without further adieu:

Presenting – 3G Woman in Technology -Virginia Marie “Ginni” Rometty – CEO and President of IBM

Ginni Rometty

Ginni Rometty – President and CEO of IBM

Ginni Rometty was the first female to be the CEO of IBM. With an educational background in computer science and electrical engineering, she worked for the General Motors Institute before joining IBM as a systems engineer. Over time she joined the IBM’s Consulting Group and she had the guts to ‘champion the purchase’ of a big business consulting firm worth 3.5 billion dollars. It paid off in the end.

Setting high goals is what helped her become the senior vice president and group executive for sales, marketing and strategy. She helped spearhead the growth strategy of IBM by helping to connect them with cloud computing and analytics businesses and it was only a matter of time before the company announced she was to be the company’s next president and CEO, a promotion she graciously accepted. She was the first woman to be promoted to president and CEO of IBM and her predecessor made it clear that “Ginni got it because she deserved it… It’s got zero to do with progressive social policies.”

A woman who has been named in the Time 100 of 2012, named to Fortune magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” and ranked #15 on Forbes magazine’s “World’s 100 Most Powerful Woman…Ginni Rometty is a truly inspirational 3G WIT seeing as her life’s work reflects a constant desire to learn and grow and she’s taken this passion and used it to lead an already successful technology company to greater growth and success.

So that’s our 3G Woman In Technology for the week, Ginni Rometty. Until next time, I’m your 3G IT – DTLT, keeping it at 3Gs with style and grace.
